Name

Why is the temple called "Gushan Daitian" on this page while the only source gives its name as "Kaohsiung Daitian"? Phlar (talk) 13:30, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Let's walk through this one by one. If you see from the photo, the nameplate for the temple at the entrance gate is written 代天宮 or Daitiangong (meaning Daitian Temple). So the temple is indeed called Daitian Temple. Now the question is whether to use Gushan or Kaohsiung in front of it to avoid ambiguity, because there are many temples called Daitian Temple around the world, presumably. So now we add the local place context to make the name uniquely only for that particular place.
Generally, from my search, there are many inconsistency of the naming throughout various sources (same like many other Taiwan-related places). Gushan is a district of Kaohisung. So actually you are right. By default, if there are no other temple called Daitian Temple in Kaohsiung, it should be named Kaohsiung Daitian Temple. Unless there are other Daitian Temple in other districts of Kaohsiung, then we named it the more specific name for it, such as Gushan Daitian Temple (located in Kaohsiung's Gushan District) and Lingya Daitian Temple (if there is another similar name temple located in Kaohsiung's Lingya District - for example).
So I guess it's ok to move this article to Kaohsiung Daitian Temple. Of course the native Chinese name should follow as well (高雄代天宮). Chongkian (talk) 10:03, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

The temple was built in 1951 and used as the city office of Kaohsiung. It was the original location of Shuangye Elementary School.

The current wording of the history section implies that, after the temple was built, it was used as the city office and an elementary school. Is this true? Or did the city office and elementary school predate the temple, which was built on the site of the former office/school? Phlar (talk) 13:49, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, actually this one is really confusing as well. I need to get more info from many other resources to clarify on this matter.Chongkian (talk) 10:12, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
